বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বাংলাদেশের একটি পাবলিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। এটি দেশের ঢাকা বিভাগের গোপালগঞ্জ জেলায় অবস্থিত। ২০০১ সালের ৮ জুলাই মহান জাতীয় সংসদে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় আইন পাস হয়। বিভিন্ন বাধার কারণে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টির কার্যক্রম সম্পূর্ণ বন্ধ থাকে। ২০১০ সালের ২০ জানুয়ারি বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এর আইন বাস্তবায়নের জন্য সরকার এসআরও জারি করে। অবশেষে ২০১১-১২ শিক্ষাবর্ষ থেকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এর একাডেমিক কার্যক্রম শুরু হয় ।

বশেমুরবিপ্রবিতে বর্তমানে ৭টি অনুষদের অধীনে ৩৪টি বিভাগ রয়েছে।

বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, গোপালগঞ্জ।

প্রথমত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পৌঁছানোর উপায় বলি।
রাজধানী ঢাকা থেকে দুই বা, আড়াই ঘন্টায়ই পৌঁছানো সম্ভব গোপালগঞ্জ। ঢাকার গুলিস্তান ও সায়েদাবাদ থেকে একাধিক বাস গোপালগঞ্জের উদ্দেশ্যে ছেড়ে যায় প্রতিদিন। গোপালগঞ্জের 'ঘোনাপাড়ায়' নামলে ইজি বাইক, রিক্সা বা, মাহিন্দ্রা যোগে পাঁচ মিনিটেই পৌঁছে যাওয়া যায় এই ৫৫ একরের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে।

বাস ভোর ৫. ৩০ থেকে রাত ১১ টা পর্যন্ত প্রতিদিন এই রুটে চলে পদ্মাসেতু হয়ে। গুলিস্তান, সায়েদাবাদ ছাড়াও আব্দুল্লাহপুর, এয়ারপোর্ট থেকে এই রুটেই বাস ছেড়ে যায়।
পাশাপাশি পদ্মাসেতু হয়ে যাওয়ার পর গাবতলি থেকে পাটুরিয়া ঘাট হয়ে সল্প সংখ্যক বাস চলাচল করে।

উত্তর বঙ্গ থেকে বাসের পাশাপাশি টুঙ্গিপাড়া এক্সপ্রেস নামে ট্রেন যাতায়াত করে। রাজশাহী থেকে ঈশ্বরদী, কুষ্টিয়া, ফরিদপুর হয়ে গোপালগঞ্জ পৌঁছে ট্রেনটি। ট্রেনের শিডিউল ফেসবুকে পাওয়া যাবে।

খুলনা থেকে মাত্র এক বা, দেড় ঘন্টার রাস্তা গোপালগঞ্জ। সাতক্ষীরা, যশোর এলাকা থেকে খুলনা হয়ে সহজেই পৌঁছানো সম্ভব গোপালগঞ্জে। একইভাবে বরিশাল বিভাগের জেলার মধ্যে পিরোজপুরের সাথে গোপালগঞ্জের ডিরেক্ট রুট আছে। বিভাগের অন্যান্য জেলাগুলো বরিশাল থেকে পয়সারহাট গোপালগঞ্জ রুটে যাতায়াত করতে পারে।

প্বার্শবর্তী জেলা মাদারীপুর ও শরীয়তপুর থেকে ডিরেক্ট বাসেই আসা সম্ভব এখানে টেকেরহাট হয়ে।

এগুলো ছাড়াও চট্টগ্রাম থেকে ডিরেক্ট বাস আছে। আর অন্যান্য জেলার ক্ষেত্রে এই রুট গুলা ব্যবহার করেই যার‍যার সুবিধা অনুযায়ী আসা সম্ভব।

বাংলাদেশের পাবলিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জগতের অন্যতম পরিচিত, আলোচিত ও সমালোচিত একটি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের যাত্রা শুরু অল্প কয়েক বছরের মধ্যেই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ঘটে যায় ছোট বড় অনেক ইস্যু। ইস্যুগুলোর বড় একটা অংশ যেমন ইতিবাচক প্রভাব ফেলেছে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পাড়ায়, তেমনি ফেলেছে নেতিবাচক প্রভাবও। সব ছাড়িয়ে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষাক্রম আগামী কয়েক বছরের মধ্যে গুছিয়ে উঠতে পারলে এবং শিক্ষা ও সংস্কৃতির পরিবেশ শিক্ষক শিক্ষার্থীদের সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টায় গড়ে তুলতে সক্ষম হলে এই ৫৫ একরের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টি অনেক দূরে এগিয়ে যাবে বলে বিশ্বাস করি।

বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টির তৈরীর প্রক্রিয়া শুরু হয়েছিল ১৯৯৯ সালে। ১২টি বৃহত্তর জেলায় ১২টি বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় স্থাপনের পরিকল্পনা তৎকালীন সরকার গ্রহণ করে। প্রথম পর্যায়ে বাস্তবায়নের জন্য ৬টি উন্নয়ন প্রকল্প প্রস্তাব প্রণয়ন করা হয়। এই ৬টির মধ্যে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রকল্পটি ছিল একটি। ১৯৯৯ সালের ১৫ নভেম্বর রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ফলিত পদার্থবিজ্ঞান ও ইলেকট্রনিক্স বিভাগের প্রফেসর ড. এম. খায়রুল আলম খানকে প্রকল্প পরিচালক নিযুক্ত করে গোপালগঞ্জে পাঠানো হয়। প্রকল্প পরিচালক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্থান নির্বাচন, জমি অধিগ্রহণ (প্রায় ৫৫ একর) এবং জমি ভরাটের কাজ সম্পন্ন করেন। ইতিমধ্যে ২০০১ সালের ৮ জুলাই মহান জাতীয় সংসদে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় আইন প্রণীত হয়। ২০০১ সালের ১৩ জুলাই তৎকালীন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভিত্তি প্রস্তর স্থাপন করেন। ১৪ জুলাই তৎকালীন প্রধানমন্ত্রী অত্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য হিসেবে প্রফেসর ড. এম. খায়রুল আলম খানকে নিয়োগের সুপারিশ করেন এবং রাষ্ট্রপতি ১৯ জুলাই ২০০১ উক্ত নিয়োগ অনুমোদন করেন।
২০০২ সালের ১৫ এপ্রিল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রকল্পটি সম্পূর্ণ বন্ধ ঘোষণা করা হয় এবং উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. এম. খায়রুল আলম খানের নিয়োগ বাতিল করে এবং তাকে তার পূর্বতন প্রতিষ্ঠান রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে যোগদানের নির্দেশ দেয়া হয়। ২০০৯ সালের নভেম্বরে স্থগিত প্রকল্পটি পুনর্জীবিত হয় এবং ২০১০ সালের ৫ জানুয়ারী প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা প্রফেসর ড. এম. খায়রুল আলম খানকে আবারও প্রকল্প পরিচালক নিয়োগ করে এবং ২০ জানুয়ারি ২০১০ তারিখে বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, গোপালগঞ্জ আইন-২০০১ বাস্তবায়নের জন্য শিক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয় এসআরও জারী করে।
পরবর্তীতে ১৪ ডিসেম্বর ২০১০ তারিখে মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীর অনুমোদনে রাষ্ট্রপতি জিল্লুর রহমান প্রফেসর ড. এম. খায়রুল আলম খানকে পুনরায় ৪ বছরের জন্য বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য হিসেবে নিয়োগ প্রদান করেন এবং ১৩ ডিসেম্বর ২০১৪ তারিখে মেয়াদ শেষ করেন। রাষ্ট্রপতি আব্দুল হামিদ ২ ফেব্রুয়ারি ২০১৫ তারিখে বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের জৈবপ্রযুক্তি বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড.  খোন্দকার নাসিরউদ্দিনকে উপাচার্য হিসেবে ৪ বছরের জন্য নিয়োগ প্রদান করে। তিনি ধারাবাহিকভাবে দ্বিতীয় মেয়াদেও নিয়োগ পান। কিন্তু ২০১৯ সালে তার বিরুদ্ধে নারী কেলেঙ্কারী, ক্ষমতার অপব্যবহার সহ নানাবিধ অভিযোগে ছাত্রছাত্রীদের আন্দোলনের মুখে ঐ বছরের ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর তিনি পদত্যাগ করেন। এরপর উপাচার্যের চলতি দায়িত্ব পান ড. মো. শাহজাহান।[৩] তিনি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টির ইলেকট্রনিকস ও টেলিযোগাযোগ প্রকৌশল বিভাগের সভাপতি ছিলেন। ২০২০ সালের ২ সেপ্টেম্বর পূর্ণমেয়াদী উপাচার্যের দায়িত্ব পান ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভূগোল ও পরিবেশবিদ্যা বিভাগের (অবসরপ্রাপ্ত) অধ্যাপক ড.  এ. কিউ. এম. মাহবুব। ৬ সেপ্টেম্বর তিনি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পৌঁছে তার কর্মস্থলে যোগদান করেন। বর্তমানে তিনি দায়িত্বরত আছেন।
